Well it is officially Summer time in my eyes! Last night brought in the first major rain storm of the season and it was a beauty! I woke up around 1 am to the sound of heavy rain and wind. Looking out my bedroom window, I saw palms thrashing around and lightning strikes. The dramatic storm only lasted about 20 minutes, and then eventually gave way to a steady, windless rain.
This is par for the course during Vallarta’s Rainy season. From mid June until mid October, our beautiful city gets its fair share of precipitation. 55″ on average! The rain we receive turns our mountains into lush, tropical hillsides bursting with bright green foliage. Our rivers turn to a chocolatey brown as they rush into the Bay creating beautiful colors.
These summer storms are definitely beautiful and bring a much needed respite from the heat of the Summer sun. But residents and visitors must also take the right precautions to avoid any issues caused by rainy season. Summerproofing your house is a fantastic way to make sure you stay dry this summer and that your home stays in tip-top shape. The main thouroughfare, Francisco Villa, often becomes flooded during storms, so try avoiding that avenue when appropriate!
