It’s Monday May 18, 2020 and we are beginning to see signs that Puerto Vallarta will slowly start to reopen. The city has been on a fairly strict lockdown since mid-March. It has been impressive to see how local and state government sprung in to action and really got everyone to follow the stay at home orders. Our city has remained relatively unscathed by the Covid19 pandemic, with relatively few deaths reported. As we begin to reopen, we are still being cautious and taking steps to keep everyone safe. No one knows exactly how this will pan out. Will we see a spike in cases? We’re not sure, but we are taking the right steps to be as safe as possible as we try to get the local economy up and running again.
Today, Monday May 18th there is definitely more traffic on the streets as many semi-essential businesses open back up today. Beaches and the malecon are still closed until June 1st. June 1st will be the major reopening date that will affect everyone the most. All businesses will be allowed to open on June 1st, but will need to follow social distancing guidelines. Restaurants will implement special seating where there is plenty of space between tables. Schools will continue to be closed until the beginning of the next scholastic cycle in late August.
I hope that you are all doing well and staying healthy. As we all navigate the reopening of our cities, I hope you stay safe and are able to get back out there and start to do the things you enjoy again. For many of you that means travelling to Puerto Vallarta. Know that we are adapting and improving and will be waiting for you all again when the time is right!
